Belarus-Moldova trade up 9.7% in January-April 2010

In January-April 2010 the bilateral trade between Belarus and Moldova totaled $63.1 million, increasing by 9.7% on the same period 2009, BelTA learnt from counselor for trade and economic issues of the Belarusian Embassy in Moldova Dmitry Samusevich on 8 June.

In January-April 2010 the Belarusian export to Moldova totaled $41.5 million, and import from Moldova amounted to $21.6 million.

The main Belarusian exports were petrochemicals, foodstuffs, goods of wood processing industry, consumer goods, machinery, construction materials, household appliances, drugs, cosmetics and washing means.

The main Moldovan exports are grape wines and wine stock. In 2010 Belarus remains one of main partners of Moldovan winemakers. Belarus also imports corn, grape, apples, pears, nuts, sunflower oil, soy, vegetables, sunflower seeds, tobacco, oilcakes, ardent spirits, drugs, and engines.

According to the results of 2009, Belarus is 5th in the list of importers of Moldovan goods, while Moldova is 4th in terms of Belarusian export to the CIS countries, Dmitry Samusevich said.

In order to enhance the Belarusian-Moldovan trade and economic cooperation, a Moldovan delegation led by Moldova’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Valeriu Cosarciuc is in Belarus on 8-11 June. The Moldovan delegation partakes in the Belarusian Agricultural Week. A Moldovan exposition is displayed at the Belagro-2010 exhibition.

The Moldovan businessmen are set to hold talks with their Belarusian colleagues, get familiar with agricultural machinery, equipment, and technologies, and pay visits to major Belarusian farms. The Moldovan delegation is expected to hold negotiations at Belarusian Agriculture Ministry and meet with Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister and co-chairman of Belarusian-Moldovan intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation Ivan Bambiza.
