Netherlands views Brest Oblast as promising tourist destination

BREST, 9 August (BelTA) – The Netherlands views Brest Oblast as a promising tourist destination, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Poland and Belarus Marcel Kurpershoek said as he met with senior officials of the Brest regional authorities.

“Brest Oblast has unique opportunities to develop tourist. These include the Belovezhskaya Pushcha national park and the Belarusian Polesye,” the diplomat said. According to his words, the region has great prospects for developing eco-tourism. For Europe it is important that Belarus pays great attention to environmental projects, conservation of natural diversity of the region.

In the course of the meeting the sides considered a possibility of involving Dutch specialists, who have a great experience in ship building and use of inland water resources, in implementing joint projects with Brest Oblast.

In turn, First Deputy Chairman of the Brest oblast executive committee Mikhail Yukhimuk underlined the interest of the Brest Oblast in developing trade and economic cooperation with the Netherlands. In his words, the Brest Oblast maintians trade relations with 119 countries. There are over 400 private companies with foreign capital in the region. The major investors are Poland, Russia, Germany. The Netherlands is also among the partners of Brest Oblast. There are 15 economic companies in the region with the Dutch capital. The trade between Brest Oblast and the Netherlands reached $40 million in 2009.

According to Mikhail Yukhimuk, the twin-town relations that have been established between Brest and Coevorden contribute to the development of both economic and cultural relations. He expressed confidence that the visit of the Ambassador would give a new impetus to the development of interregional cooperation.
