The Conference of the National Platform
Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum
“The role and place of civil society in the strategy of the future”
Minsk, 19-20 March 2011
Dear representatives of Belarus’ civil society organizations,
representatives of the political sector and the expert community of
Belarus, authorized persons of the diplomatic missions of the countries
of the European Union and Eastern Partnership!
We invite you to take part in the Conference “The role and place of civil society in the strategy of the future” on the basis of the National Platform of the Civil Society Forum of the Eastern Partnership. This conference is aimed at providing a public discussion of the actual situation in the country in its entirety and in the public sector in particular, as well as possible prospects of the further actions within the scope of the National Platform of the Civil Society Forum for the nearest period.
The Conference will include participation of Belarusan and foreign civil society organizations, experts, and representatives of the diplomatic missions of the countries of the European Union in the Republic of Belarus.
In the situation after December, 19th, 2010, a new strategy of civil society’s actions becomes a pressing question. It is obvious that any positive changes in the country are impossible if the third sector is not involved in the dialogue about the future and if the existing public-political split in Belarus is not eliminated. However, civil society’s separateness and weakness do not allow it today to enter equal relations with the Belarusan state and to join the solution of significant public problems.
The problem of civil society’s consolidation, despite its evidence, cannot be solved without coordination of the strategies and approaches various public forces have. Such approaches should be publicly presented by those who possess them, and discussed with civil society organizations. Only after their criticism and analysis, it is possible to start forming and suggesting the uniform strategic platform of actions for the near future.
Representatives of Belarus’ civil society organizations (public societies and associations, trade unions, non-commercial establishments and funds, civil initiatives), as well as representatives of the political and expert communities, are invited to participate in the Conference of the National Civil Society Forum “The role and place of civil society in the strategy of the future”.
One’s participation in the Conference can be declared in one of the two possible forms:
Spokesperson at the discussion panel.
Participant of plenary sessions and working groups of the Conference.
