At the meeting that took place at the House of Representatives the head of Swiss delegation, Arthur Mattli said he would have liked to see Belarus in the Council of Europe.
The meeting was held on December, 4 and was timed to the development of inter-parliamentary as well as other areas of Belarus and Switzerland cooperation. Swiss delegation was led by Head of the Division Europe, Central Asia, Council of Europe and OSCE at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland Arthur Mattli, who expressed his wish to see Belarus represented in the Council of Europe, reported BelTA.“Accession of Belarus to the Council of Europe will make a good canvas for the future and present painting that will show all European states,” said Arthur Mattli.
Nikolai Samoseiko, the chairman of the permanent commission for international affairs of the House of Representatives of Belarus before the meeting told reporters that Belarusan MPs were going “to discuss the possibility of establishing a working group by Switzerland for cooperation with the Parliament of Belarus.” He also mentioned that there is a need to strengthen the relations to attract Swiss investment in Belarus and boost Belarusian export to Switzerland.
He said Belarus would likely face economic tightening not only as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but also a Russian trade oil crisis that worsened this past winter.
