Mikola Statkevich was awarded International Willy-Brandt Prize for “Special political courage”.
The Prize was founded by the Social Democratic Party of Germany for the contribution to the mutual understanding and piece of the world, SPD reports.
The Prize was announced by the Social Democratic Party of Germany in 2011 in connection with the 40th anniversary of Willy-Brandt famous kneeling before the Monument to the heroes of Warsaw ghetto. All over the world it is perceived as a gesture of confession for the crimes of the Second World War.
The Prize consists of two parts. The main one will be given to the Norwegian Prime Minister Stoltenberg. Mikola Statkevich will be awarded with the prize for “Special political courage”.
Tis year the Prize will be presented for the second time. The first prize-winner previous year was the conductor Daniel Barenboim, while the special prize was given to the Egypt stage director Laila Soliman.
The award is presented during the special ceremony in Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin.
