According to Belarus President, the policy and position of the European Union towards Belarus has been changing recently.
This opinion Aliaksandr Lukashenka voiced in an interview with the Serbian mass media on 9 June.
“They understood that it is better to have stability in Ukraine and Belarus than a war. Because there are no far-away conflicts if it is Europe, there are no Ukrainian conflicts. No one can guarantee that this conflict will not spread to the neighboring state, to Poland or Germany, our Slavic countries,”BelTA quotes Lukashenka’s words.
“At least, they have started greeting me and talking to me. This is huge progress. But I reiterate that I am prepared for a dialogue with anybody in the best interests of the Belarusan people. I am responsible for this territory just like Merkel is responsible for Germany, Komorowski and Tusk are responsible for Poland,” Lukashenka said.
“If you want to live in peace do not create problems for your neighbors, do not start a fire there. It seems that Europe has sobered up. It is starting to understand this,” – he concluded.
Let us recall that the day before Belarus President stated that he won’t let the West run the show in Belarus: “Why would I be mad at the West? I understand very well what they want from me and what they want from Belarus. I will never agree to that and I will never let them run the show here,” – said Aliaksandr Lukashenka.
He said Belarus would likely face economic tightening not only as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but also a Russian trade oil crisis that worsened this past winter.
