Statement
of Belarusan National Platform
of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum
in connection with the signing of Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine EU Association Agreements
June 27, 2014
The Belarusan National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum welcomes a historic step made by Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine towards common space with the European Union. Signing of EU Association Agreements by three countries-members of the Eastern Partnership on June 27, 2014 is an important milestone in the development of relations with our common neighbor - European Union. Association agreements open new prospects of economic well-being, strengthening of democratic management institutes, fuller realization of human rights, reaching bigger social justice and security.
We hope that prompt ratification and consistent realization of Association Agreements will serve as an example for peoples, civil societies and governments of Belarus, Armenia, and Azerbaijan in developing their relations with the EU and fuller use of opportunities provided by the EU's Eastern Partnership initiative.
We note that signing of the Association Agreements wouldn’t be possible without the considerable contribution in development of relations between partner countries and the EU made by the civil society. Only courageous and dedicated actions of Ukraine’s broader civil society enabled the country to maintain a commitment to the European choice and values of common Europe.
We sincerely congratulate our colleagues from the national platforms of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine as well as our colleagues from the civil society organizations of the EU with this event that has an important symbolic and practical significance!
