The head of Lithuania’s Foreign Office discussed EU-Belarus cooperation with Belarus PM

On July 24-25 Lithuania's Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius was on a two-day working visit to Belarus.
Belarus Prime Minister Mikhail Miasnikovich and Lithuania's foreign policy chief Linas Linkevičius have discussed the problems of cooperation between the two countries and EU-official Minsk relations.
Linas Linkevičius is also scheduled to meet Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei, Belarusian government as well as to hold meetings with the representatives of Belarusan political parties, civil society, and relatives of political prisoners.
This visit to Belarus is a visit in response after Uladzimir Makei visited Lithuania on February 28 - March 2014 at the invitation of his Lithuanian counterpart, Euroradio recalls.
As “EuroBelarus” Information Service earlier reported, on the threshold of his visit to Minsk Linas Linkevičius made a strange statement, which could serve as a proof on a new step in Belarus-Lithuania relations, even though Belarus still doesn’t admit the presence of political prisoners in the country.
“It is time to reassess our dialogue and relations, we cannot neglect the position of Belarus on very important issues, - said Linkevičius. - On the other hand there are problems, there still are political prisoners, we still have questions but we should talk to them and I will do that, I will go to Minsk and try to find common ground on some issues. There is some movement towards a rapprochement, we have to keep the dialogue open,” concluded Lithuanian Foreign Minister at the meeting with Lithuanian Ambassadors.
He said Belarus would likely face economic tightening not only as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but also a Russian trade oil crisis that worsened this past winter.
