The first meeting of the Belarus-EU Coordination Group took place in Brussels on 6-7 April. Belarus’ delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna. The EU delegation was led by Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service Helga Schmid.
According to the spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dzmitry Mironchyk, the parties discussed the issues related to the state and prospects for the development of Belarus-EU relations, Belarus' participation in the Eastern Partnership initiative.
The talks included the intensification of dialogues in the economic, financial and environmental sectors. The parties also considered the ways to launch new bilateral dialogues on trade, energy, customs, innovations and standardization issues, as well as boost cooperation in modernization, technical assistance, and also human rights, BelTA informs.
He said Belarus would likely face economic tightening not only as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but also a Russian trade oil crisis that worsened this past winter.
