“The visit of the Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to Belarus is timely and important. We hope that it will add a new impetus to the development of our cooperation with the Council of Europe,” said Uladzimir Makei after his meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart Daniel Mitov on 11 April.
The meeting highlighted a lot of issues, including the ones most vulnerable for the Council of Europe and Belarus, i.e. capital punishment and cooperation in the field of human rights, BelTA informs. Vladimir Makei also emphasized positive dynamics in the relations between Belarus and the Council of Europe. “Our joint task is to keep this momentum,” he stressed.
During the negotiations the sides discussed the current state and prospects of the development of the bilateral relations in political, economic and humanitarian fields. Both parties paid special attention to the interaction within international organizations, including the Council of Europe, where Bulgaria holds the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers.
In the framework of the visit the parties will meet with the leadership of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and visit the Council of Europe Information Point in Minsk.
