Imprisonment of the head of the Human Rights Center “Viasna” Ales Bialiatski and deprivation of office cannot stop the work of organization.
This was announced by the representatives of “Viasna” due to the forfeiture proceeding execution that was started on November, 26 by the bailiffs of the Pershamaiski District Court of Minsk. The office of the human rights center was registered as a private property of Ales Bialiatski who is confined to 4,5 years of imprisonment with the seizure of property.
All the victims of the human rights’ violations can count on our help and support as before, Viasna” representatives claim in their statement.
“We will continue defending the values of human rights, fight for their observance by the Belarusan authorities, inform Belarusan society and international community about the real situation with the human rights in Belarus”, - claim “Viasna” representatives.
It is also noted in the statement that “the imprisonment of Ales Bialiatski and the existence of political prisoners is the indicator of the crucially bad situation with the human rights in the country”.
“During the time of the Human Rights Center “Viasna” existence we have visited thousands of citizens whom we gave legal advice; we raised funds to support victims of political repressions, organized press-conferences, meetings, trainings and seminars. We have always conducted our operations openly, despite the absence of registration from the 2003 and the threat of prosecution because of that”, - reminded the human rights defenders.
The deputy chairman of the Human Rights Centre "Viasna" Valiantsin Stefanovich noted that the organization will look for the new office so that to have a possibility to receive citizens who need help. This work cannot be done through the Internet, he explained. Temporary the civil reception room of the Human Rights Center will function in the office of the Movement for Freedom.
Let us recall that sentence to Ales Bialiatski was passed on November 24, 2011 by the Pershamaiski District Court of Minsk. At the moment the human rights defender serves his sentence in the Babruisk colony #2.
“So far we rather not wait for the discharge of Ales Bialiatski but hope for that. Because very complicated political processes should take place for the Belarusan authorities to think better of it and take a right decision”, - said the lawyer Pavel Sapelka during the confiscation of the “Viasna” office to the EuroBelarus Information Service.
