People from all walks of life – of different age, teenagers, students, social and political activists, human rights fighters, artists, writers, poets, and all those who appreciate Belarusan masterpieces written by Ryhor Baradulin.
Ales Kamotski, Uladzimir Niakliaeu, Adam Globus, Stanislau Shushkevich, Harry Pahaniajla… - it is impossible to recall all the famous personalities who came to say farewell to the People’s Poet.
In an hour flowers covered the coffin.
Mass of the Greek Catholic (Uniate) Rite took place. After that Ryhor Baradulin would find peace in his native Ushachy area.
- Today we are having a sad day of mourning. We all are waiting for spring; and, unhappily, we are having this spring without Ryhor… - said artist Ales Marachkin the EuroBelarus Information Service in remembrance of his friend. – Of course, it is a great loss for our culture. However, his legacy will remain as long as Belarus exists. He was a great poet and a great citizen. He was an equal to Bahdanovich, Ciotka, Kupala and Kolas. May he rest in peace!
The poet died aged 79. Ryhor Baradulin was born on February 24, 1935, in Verasouka, Ushachy area.
Ryhor Baradulin was the co-founder of the Belarusian PAN-center, a member of the Belarusian Writer's Union, the author of more than 70 books of poems, about 30 books of translations, critical articles and essays. His works are translated to forty languages. Ryhor Baradulin was a member of the BPF Party.
