Belarusan government plans to create watchdogs to scrutinize media products for signs of extremism.
The Belarusan government has made a decision to create a national panel of experts and its branches locally whose mission will be to scrutinize media products for the presence of manifestations of extremism, the government’s press-service told ITAR-TASS on August 22.
Such watchdogs will be created in each of the country’s regions to act upon request from government agencies, organizations, public associations or individual businessmen. Their conclusions can be contested in a court of law.
The Information Ministry says the measure builds up from the national law on resistance to extremism and is expected to help protect society’s interests from “destructive manifestations” in the media space.
