The initiators of the Congress believe that there is real threat to Belarus’ independence. It is connected with the signing of the agreement on establishing the Eurasian Economic Union.

Former Constitutional Court judge Mikhail Pastuhou believes that there are reasonable grounds to organize the congress. On May 29, 2014 in Astana, the presidents of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia signed an agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union. It is planned to ratify it in the near future.

The organizing committee for the preparation and convening of the All-Belarusian Congress for independence was established on 30 August. Alena Anisim, deputy chairperson of the Belarusian Language Society was elected Coordinator of the organizing committee.
