EU elections to the European Parliament are being held these days

The first countries to vote are the citizens of the Netherlands and the Great Britain.

Citizens of 28 countries-members of the EU are electing the 751 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to represent their interests for the next five years on May 22-25, 2014.

Voters in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands were first to launch the European Union’s four-day elections, with the start of the voting on May 22. By this Sunday all 28 EU members will have voted. The results will be announced in the evening of the same day simultaneously in all the countries.

European Parliament is a legislative body of the EU, which functions are to adopt laws, budget, as well as control the work of the European Commission.

The slogan of the election campaigning is “This time it's different!” Let is also note that European Parliament is broadening its responsibilities in the sphere of EU’s budget, international trade and private data protection.
