On April 12-13, Lithuanian border guards are holding a tactical exercise on the border with Belarus. The game is aimed at improving the staff skills to detaining illegal migrants.
In the course of the training the guards are expected to simulate the detention of a large group of border violators.
According to its scenario, after the closing of the so-called Balkan corridor illegal migrants who started to look for alternative ways would more often opt for the route through Turkey to Ukraine and then to Belarus, from where they might attempt to get to Lithuania, which opens the gate to Western Europe and Scandinavia.
The highest number of border violations is recorded on the stretch of the border with Belarus, which is guarded by the Ignalina squad.
