Basta is a social enterprise outside Stockholm. It began in 1994 helping people move away from drugs and criminality through qualified work, housing, and a meaningful spare time. Basta is a client-run social enterprise - in theory as well as in practice power and influence rests with the people who live and work here. Almost all positions on the Board and in the management are held by people who themselves have gone through their rehabilitation at Basta.
Basta offers help to self-help. The rehabilitation methodology is based on empowerment through work, which means running a successful social enterprise together. Basta offers work opportunities in construction, carpentry, graffiti removal, a dog nursery, horse breeding, and cleaning services. Today 100 people work at Basta, with 70 also living on the Basta premises, which covers 70 hectars of land, outside Stockholm.
Basta has considerable experience working transnationally in different European projects, including in last few years Grundtvig, Progress and Leonardo da Vinci. Right now most of our transnational networks are based in the Mediterranean area, and we would like to expand to also include social organisations within the Baltic Sea region.

We want you!
Basta has a long-term goal of creating a network of social enterprises/organisations and other organisations within the social economy around the Baltic Sea. As a first step towards this goal, we hope to submit an application for seed-money here in Sweden September 10, 2012. We are right now seeking initial contact with organisations who may wish to work with us in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia.
As a second step we hope to continue this process with a Thematic partnership project over three years.
In order to submit our application we need to register the names of the potential partners to visit.
Does it cost my organisation anything?
No. We will pay for our hotel, meals and transport. We only want to see how you work.
Time limit and what do we do now?
We hope to submit the application by 10 September 2012, which means time is short.
If our cooperation sounds interesting, please contact Basta Kristina Blixt, Basta project co-ordinator at kristina.blixt@basta.se +46 8 552 414 00 asap so we can discuss things further.
