BelaPAN hosts Belarusian language dictation session for Bulgarian, Polish and Israeli ambassadors, B

The ambassadors of Bulgaria, Poland and Israel, and Belarusian journalists took part in a Belarusian language dictation session hosted by BelaPAN on Wednesday evening in the framework of a nationwide dictation campaign on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian National Republic.

Just like on March 15, the day the campaign kicked off, the participants wrote the introduction by great Belarusian poet Francisak Bahusevic (1840-1900) to his book Dudka Belaruskaya, this time from the dictation of philologist Lyavon Barshchewski, chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front, and Uladzimir Siwchykaw, who had proposed using this text.

Mr. Siwchykaw was the editor of a Belarusian dictionary for Latin and 26 living European languages by Mr. Barshchewski, which was published in Minsk earlier this month.

Similar dictation sessions are held in various Belarusian cities and abroad every day, political analyst Uladzimir Padhol, the initiator of the campaign, told BelaPAN.

The campaign will reach its highest point on March 23, when dictation sessions are expected to be held at the Minsk offices of the Francisak Skaryna Belarusian Language Society and the Belarusian Popular Front every hour between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
On March 22 and 23, the dictation text will be broadcast by European Radio for Belarus.

Photographs taken during the campaign will be exhibited in Belarus and abroad, notably, at the UN Secretariat building in New York.
