New Erasmus Mundus students from Ukraine and Belarus meet before heading to Europe

The annual joint Erasmus Mundus meeting for newly admitted students from Ukraine and Belarus was held in Kyiv earlier this month. The two-day-long pre-departure orientation meeting was attended by more than 20 students who have won scholarship grants from the European Commission to study at one of the Erasmus Mundus Master or PhD courses at different universities all around Europe.
According to a press release of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, the students met the staff of the Delegation and got “first-hand advice from Erasmus Mundus alumni”. They
were informed about the role of Erasmus Mundus in relations with EU
neighbours, and embassy representatives of EU members (Finland, Germany,
Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Spain) as well as Norway “provided general information and practical tips regarding visa requirements, living and studying in their respective countries” and answered questions.
The representative of National TEMPUS Office in Ukraine Olena Orzhel presented TEMPUS - an external programme of the EU that supports modernisation of higher education systems in the EU partner countries and neighbouring states - and the activities of the country office. There was also a presentation of Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni Association activities and explanation of various practical issues. The students participated at the workshop on intercultural communication during which they “were working in teams trying to understand the influence of the culture on human behavior, acquiring valuable information about European mentality, culture peculiarities of the different nations and regions and the concept of culture shock and learning how to fulfill the role of the ambassadors of their home countries”
It
has become a tradition for new Erasmus Mundus scholars and alumni to
come together to Kyiv and to interact, ask questions and exchange their
experiences. Such pre-departure orientation meetings are organized every
year following the initiative of the CIS & Mongolia Regional
Chapter of Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni Association in close
cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.
