The PAC may become an NGO

Such a possibility was voiced by the Chairman of the Minsk Capital Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers Vladimir Karyagin during the meeting in Minsk of the European Union representatives in Belarus and the participants of the National Platform for the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum. 

According to Vladimir Karyagin, the Public Advisory Council may now become a public association. It can be created as such by 11 the most active participants of the PAC. Whether it will be done or not, now only the former members of the PAC can answer during the session, scheduled for September, the 28^th.

As previously reported, the Head of the Presidential Administration of Belarus Vladimir Makei dissolved the previous week the Public Advisory Council at the Presidential Administration in order to its representatives were not accused of collaboration with the authorities.

The Head of the Presidential Administration explained his decision by saying that the PAC activity can not be truly fruitful in the atmosphere of accusations of the structure being completely controlled by the authorities as well as the members of the Council being the administration appointees.

In his letter Vladimir Makei expressed his conviction that in the current circumstances "the PAC activities would cause damage to the reputation of each of its members, would lead to a split in the country's civil society". He believes that government should not "give rise to various rumors and accusations of insincere behavior".

The Public Advisory Council was created in 2009 under the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Belarus. The object of creating the structure is discussing the current issues of the state and society, elaboration of proposals for the integration of Belarus into global processes, enhancing of social, economic and political development of the country.
