“Speaking about the Belarusian choice, the main thing is to be yourself, - stated in the interview with the EuroBelarus Information Service Kiryl Koktysh, Ph.D. in political science, associate professor at the Department of Political Theory at MGIMO. – This choice is neither about the West nor about the East; as there won’t be cheap markets for Belarus”.
According to him, “there is no one who is going to paternalize Belarus in both the directions”.
“If we talk about economic identity, Belarus is destined to be an export-oriented country. It means that in order to secure the place for Belarusan goods at the market, negotiations should be carried out both with the East and with the West. Both political and economic trading is required for that; you won’t get much from the quality of goods. When all your neighbors are the members of the World Trade Organization, the competition is taking place on global level. And Belarusan corporations can’t compete on global level”, - Kiryl Koktysh noted.
Russian political scientist believes that Belarusans should use any possibility to create their own zones of protectionism.
“There are some opportunities for it in Eurasia, but the trading should be started right away. In a year there will be no space for Belarus in Eurasian market, when four freedoms – free movement of goods, free movement of capital, free movement of services and free movement of people – will be fully implemented. Belarusan corporation will lost every chance to dominate in Eurasia”, - believes Kiryl Koktysh. According to him, in future this situation will be observed in Europe, too.
