Bomb explosion near the KGB building in Viciebsk

The home-made device detonated near the regional office of the KGB at 6:48 p.m. on Sunday, 11 November, breaking the glass of two windows.

 In connection with the explosion three people were arrested, KGB spokesman Aliaksandr Antanovich told BelaPAN. As the spokesman reported, one of them had earlier phoned the KGB office with the offensive remarks about Belarusan authorities.

Criminal investigation has already been started under Part 2 or Part 3 of the Article 339, Criminal Code, which qualify the incident as “malicious hooliganism” (maximum penalty of 6 years in prison) and “especially malicious hooliganism” (maximum penalty is 10 years in prison).

The preliminary investigation shows that the pyrotechnic device was hidden inside a metal can and consisted of a cardboard or plastic tube packed with 50-70 grams of a pyrotechnic mixture. The bomb did not contain nails, metal balls or any other dangerous objects. The perpetrators set the bomb on fire to detonate it.
