Belarusan opposition politicians will attend a meeting working group on Belarus
The meeting of the EU-Neighborhood East Parliamentary Assembly (Euronest PA) is to take place in Brussels on April 1.
According to BelaPAN, it will be attended by Aliaksei Janukevich, the leader of the Belarusan Popular Front (BPF), as well as representatives of the Movement for Freedom, the United Civic Party, the "Tell the Truth!" movement, Belarusan Christian Democracy and the Spravedlivy Mir (Just World) Belarusan Party of the Left, said the BPF press office.
The working group`s meeting will be preceded by a hearing on the political and economic situation in Belarus that will involve experts and European Parliament members.
The agenda of the meeting includes a "wide range of issues of Belarusan-European cooperation in the framework of the Eastern Partnership, as well as matters of the development of political processes in Belarus," said the press office.
Mr. Janukevich will reportedly use his speech to express his opinion of the March 18-23 local elections and the party`s stance on the situation in Ukraine, and express firm support for Ukraine`s territorial integrity and the Ukrainian people`s European aspirations.
The Euronest PA was expected to consist of 60 members of the European Parliament and a 10-member delegation from each of the six post-Soviet states participating in the European Union`s Eastern Partnership program, namely Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
The Belarusan authorities have rejected a composition formula whereby the country’s delegation to the Euronest PA would include five members of the House of Representatives and five opposition politicians.
Belarusan lawmakers are currently not invited to attend Euronest PA sessions.
