“Rubon!” was the call of our ancestors, when they won over Muscovites in the Battle of Orsha 5 hundred years ago. In Old Belarusian it meant “hurrah!” because of victory over the invaders. This war-cry of winners is a part of the name of the exposition “ART-Orsha-Rubon!” that opened in Minsk Palace of Arts on October 23. The exhibition was organized by the association Pahonya of the Belarusian Union of Painters and is timed to the 500th anniversary of the battle.
According to the organizers, the main task of the exposition that will end on November 9 is to promote the history of the GDL and its culture in art, Euroradio quotes BELTA. “We know that many people invaded our land – Tatar, Moscow, Swedish, German, French invaders and others. But our warriors have always had enough power to defend themselves and their Motherland,” head of the Belarusian Union of Painters Ryhor Sinitsa claimed.
Let us recall that the Battle of Orsha (September 8, 1514) ended in the victory of the GDL and Polish Kingdom who managed to defeat Muscovites.
