Belarusians congratulated Mikola Statkevich on his birthday and wished him an early release

It is a firth in a row birthday that the political prisoner and Lukashenka’s political opponent is “celebrating” behind bars.

On August 12, Belarusian Internet users and human rights activists held an action 'Sky For Mikalai Statkevich' in support of the imprisoned politician who is still strong in spirit. They took photos of the sky in different corners of the earth and posted the pictures in social networks using the hashtag #Sky4Statkevich, writes Belsat.

Mikalai Statkevich, the only imprisoned ex-presidential candidate, had to celebrate his 59^th birthday in a solitary cell in Mahilieu prison No 4. According to his wife Maryna Adamovich, the politician hardly expects the authorities to release him before the 2015 presidential election.

As “EuroBelarus” Information Service earlier reported, at the meeting with independent journalists Lukashenka promised that “the issue of political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich may be solved in the near future”.
