First Belarusan organization to enter IFEX

Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) was the first to join a global network of 80 independent non-governmental organisations.

This was the outcome of voting at the 18th General Meeting of IFEX being held now in Trinidad and Tobago, press service of BAJ informs.

Andrei Bastunets, the chairperson of BAJ outlined the organization’s activities, described in more details the Stand up for Journalism campaign and the International Day against Impunity which BAJ supports with the main inspirers the European Federation of Journalists and IFEX.

Since summer 2014, BAJ had been an interim member of IFEX. Andrei Bastunets expressed hopes that cooperation within IFEX will help enhance effectiveness of defense of journalists’ rights in Belarus.

IFEX was founded in 1992 by 12 NGOs in Canada, currently it is an international association for defense of rights and freedoms, consisting of more than 80 organizations from 60 countries.
