The mother of Uladzislau Kavaleu who was executed in March 2012 has recently received a letter from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The communication received by Liubou Kavaleva states that the UN officials are expecting information from the Belarusan government on measures taken to implement the Human Rights Committee’s decision in her son’s case, reports Human Rights Center Viasna. The information should be submitted by July 3, 2013.
The UN Human Rights Committee urges Belarusan authorities to admit that Uladzislau Kavaleu’s rights to life and defense, as well as presumption of innocence, the right to a fair trial and judicial review were violated.
