The EU won’t upgrade its contacts with Belarus until the official Minsk fulfills the earlier announced terms.

These are, first of all, the release of the political prisoners. And as far as I understand, unless these terms are fulfilled, one shouldn’t upgrade contacts. As such step will mean that Europe is not adhering to its main principles. And by this it will tarnish its reputation. So this is hardly possible to happen”, - supposed the expert.
However, all sorts of problems should be discussed at a lower level. “Be as it may, Belarus and Europe still have common boundaries. And without some technical cooperation it would be very difficult for them to coexist”, - noted Andrei Fiodarau.
According to the invitation to the EaP Summit that is to take place in November, the political scientist suggests proceed from the standpoint of the Lithuania’s authorities, which is to decide upon the level of representation of our country at the Summit depending on the timely conditions.
“I think that the EU on the whole will act from this position. Belarus will be invited to the Summit (if nothing extraordinary happens during this time). However, the level of invitation will depend upon the policy of the Belarusan side”.
He said Belarus would likely face economic tightening not only as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but also a Russian trade oil crisis that worsened this past winter.
