The leader of “Tell the Truth” campaign, former presidential candidate announced his withdrawal from the opposition structures, including “Tell the Truth” campaign.
As follows from the special statement by Uladzimir Niakliaeu, he became disappointed with two years of fruitless negotiations among the Belarusian democratic forces held to nominate a single candidate in the current presidential election. The politician made today's announcement at a meeting of the coalition of democratic forces, but promised that he would continue to work for the sake of independence and democratic future of Belarus, Belsat quotes him saying.
Niakliaeu was the leader of “Tell the Truth” campaign since the beginning of its establishment - since February 2010. The opposition leader was called one of the strongest competitors of the incumbent President.
The deputy chairman of the organization Andrei Dzmitryeu has already announced that the new leader of Tell the Truth to be elected on April 14, the same day as the party Congress.
Two years ago in the interview with the “EuroBelarus” Information Service Niakliaeu said that at the president election 2015 the authorities will fight to the bitter end, adding that “we have to think carefully, whether we should participate in the elections or not”.
He said Belarus would likely face economic tightening not only as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but also a Russian trade oil crisis that worsened this past winter.
