At a meeting in Warsaw, satirist, writer and journalist answered questions about Russia, Krymnashyzm and Belarusian "thaw."
When asked about Russian imperialism, Victar Shenderovich said that “imperialism is a disease”. “It can be treated, if it is treated (...) There is no special way for Russia. For example, democracy, separation of powers can be recommended. The special Russian way is the same for Belarus, Venezuela, Senegal, etc”, Belsat quotes him saying.
“It's not called support, it is called hostages, - he said in regard to Putin’s rates. – It is true when a rating is same as in North Korea. It is a rating of fear and neurosis”.
When discussing Lukashenka and Belarus, the famous satirist compared Belarusan leader to Putin “without weapons”:
“Lukashenka should be grateful to Putin because he is now a little worry of the international community. And he can quietly fly on a gold airplane from Shklou to Brest. If Lukashenka had nuclear weapons, his name would be Putin”.
“Do not call it a thaw. The concept of a thaw in Russian language was introduced by Tiutchev after the death of Nicholas. And it was the first thaw. After the death of Joseph Stalin came the second. Thus it can be concluded when the thaw in Belarus will start”, - Victar Shenderovich said.
He said Belarus would likely face economic tightening not only as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but also a Russian trade oil crisis that worsened this past winter.
