The head of the Belarusan Ministry is sure that the disposition of an airbase won’t reduce the military and political tension in the region.
“Quite the opposite, the airbase will cause irritation against both Minsk and Moscow. Besides, now Belarus has so many airbases that in few hours hundreds of planes can be placed there. That’s why it’s more topical for us to speak about readiness to give an operative answer in case of bigger tension in the region or Belarus’ and Russia’s threat security”, - Uladzimir Makei stated in the interview with the Kommersant newspaper.
“In the current situation, when there is a number of other questions that require quick solution, including the Ukrainian crisis and situation in Syria, we think that there is no need to consider disposition of an airbase in Belarus”, - he added.
Makei also emphasized that the Belarusan Foreign Ministry didn’t consider this issue in its negotiations with Russia.
