Georgia is EC’s priority for 2014

Herman Van Rompuy, the President of the European Council, said that the signature of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement is one of the top priorities for the European Council.

Van Rompuy encouraged Georgia to continue to pay attention to political pluralism and media freedom, as well as provide proper evidence for criminal prosecutions.

The President of the European Council is concerned with the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, where Russian army built obstructions prevening free movement of people.

According to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, the EU-Georgia Association Agreement can be signed already in August 2014, report European media.

Let us recall that in 2013 it was Ukraine that was priority for the EC. However, under the pressure of Russia after the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in November 2013 Ukraine has frozen the negotiations regarding the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU, it turned into the most serious political crisis in its modern history.
