Sergey Shoigu: We have settled in Belarus

Russia is forming a second airbase in Belarus. It is to appear in Bobruisk in 2016.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stated that Russia is to keep developing airbases abroad: in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Armenia. “We are developing them rather actively,” ITAR-TASS quotes Sergey Shoigu.

Shoigu recalled that a Russian squadron went on combat duty in Belarus. “We have settled there and started combat duty,” the minister said.

Belarusan Defense Minister Yuri Zhadobin said his ministry was expanding the format of Union Shield 2015 drills on the proposal of his Russian counterpart. “The Union Shield 2015 joint drills will be the key event of combat training in the 2015 plan. They will take place at firing ranges of Russia and Belarus,” Zhadobin said.

Russia sent 24 Su-27SM3 fighter jets to Belarus’s Baranovichi airfield. Russia is also starting a second airbase in Belarus. It is to appear in 2016 in Bobruisk. Su-27 fighter jets will be based there.
