The basis for such timing is the Minsk agreements that are to be fulfilled by the end of the year.
"This is a technical issue. The basis for such timing is the Minsk agreements, because sanctions are connected to their implementation. The agreements are to be fulfilled by the end of 2015. Therefore, the prolongation will be for another six months," – a European diplomat has told UNIAN’s Brussels correspondent.
A EU summit in spring tied the full implementation of the Minsk agreements to the lifting of sectorial economic sanctions on Russia.
The European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and several other countries imposed sanctions against Russia because of its annexation of the Ukrainian territory of Crimea and its destabilization of eastern Ukraine.
